What are the benefits of becoming a Core Plus Teacher?

Core Plus Instructors are fully supported through professional development and industry partners who seek to assist in the classroom. Costs for training, materials, travel and other relative curriculum can be covered by the Core Plus iGrants which are administered through OSPI for Aerospace, Construction and Maritime.

How much does it cost to use the curriculum?

OSPI hosts Core Plus curriculum to be used by WA instructors for free.  For access, contact OSPI.

How do I help my school start a Core Plus program?

As an industry representative, how do I engage with Core Plus?

Contact the Sector Lead who represents your industry or the OSPI coordinator for more guidance.

Can I teach Core Plus if I am not at a Skill Center?

Yes! Core Plus Programs of Study are available both through “comprehensive” or traditional high schools, and Skill Centers.

Do all Core Plus students earn Math, Science and Language Arts credits?

While Core Plus programs offer 3rd year Math, Science, and English credit equivalencies, it is up to the local school districts to determine if it Core Plus programs will be awarded academic credit.

How do I find a Core Plus location for a student?

Check out the Career Technical Education section of your local high school’s website. If “Core Plus” is not listed specifically, it may be the curriculum used in Welding, Manufacturing or Construction classes.  Still don’t know?  Contact OSPI.

What’s the benefit for the student completing a Core Plus program?

Students have more options than ever. Whether they plan to enter the workforce, join the military, pursue an apprenticeship or college, Core Plus can help. Hands-on classes allow students to gain transferable, in-demand skills and explore careers while still in high school.

Depending on your district, you can earn math, science, English, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and elective credits. Certificates from a Core Plus program give students a clear advantage when applying for a job in manufacturing, pursuing an apprenticeship, or preparing for college programs in fields such as applied sciences and engineering.
