Thursday, September 12th – Friday, September 13th – Water Safety in Neah Bay (In-person)
– Thursday, September 12th – All-day Water Safety training for Educators. UW Sea Grant Instructor, Robert Maw, will go through everything you’d want to share with your students to make them safer on and in the water. This is not a full-blown drill conductor course; you will be provided materials, hands-on activities and information you can easily bring into your classrooms to share with students, no water needed. But we will get you on the water via Windsong Charters while in Neah Bay!
– Friday, September 13th – The day will start with a review and wrap-up of water safety, then we’ll dive headfirst into Makah culture. See how Neah Bay emphasizes their culture and maritime in school classrooms; how they support youth out of classrooms with traditional practices and athletics; tour the incredible Makah Museum; get to know seafood and eat it! Twelve Makah cooks and industry partners have agreed to cook a variety of seafood with a variety of methods.

Learn about Core Plus Maritime FP 920; hear what makes a stand-out applicant, ask questions. Hear what’s planned for the 2024-2025 school year regarding Professional Development, Student Events and Curriculum updates. Overview of Core Plus Maritime curriculum on the Canvas platform; how to use Canvas, ask questions, request 1-on-1 curriculum meeting. Go over the Employer Guide and hear how CPM staff plans to better support students with job placement this year. Most importantly, give feedback on what YOU want out of PD this year.
